In the new smelting process of synthetic cast iron, the use of scrap steel is greatly increased. The carbon content of molten iron is adjusted by adding a carburetor, which ensures the quality of molten iron and greatly reduces the production cost.
Type
Based on the crystal structure of carbon in the carburetor, the carburetor can be divided into amorphous state and crystalline state; It can be divided into graphitized carburetor and non-graphitized carburetor according to the existence form of carbon atom. Graphitized carburetor mainly includes graphitized petroleum coke and graphite electrode. Graphitized petroleum coke carbon extender is widely used in the casting industry. Its production process is to heat the raw material petroleum coke in the graphitized furnace at 2200-2600 ℃, so as to transform the amorphous disorderly layer structure carbon crystal of petroleum coke into three-dimensional ordered graphite crystal through high temperature heat treatment process, i.e., achieve graphitized state through graphitized process. The non-graphitized carburetor mainly includes calcined petroleum coke, coal-based carburetor, etc. The calcined petroleum coke refers to the petroleum coke which is heated at high temperature of 1200-1500 ℃, with low treatment temperature and unchanged crystal structure. Due to high ash content and volatile matter, coal-based carburetor is rarely used in electric arc furnace smelting. The indicators to measure the quality of the carburetor mainly include fixed carbon content, sulfur content, volatile matter, ash content, nitrogen content and water content. The content of sulfur and nitrogen in graphitized carburetor after high-temperature graphitized treatment is much lower than that of non-graphitized carburetor.

Carbon raiser is a carbon material, produced at high temperatures and used for carburization of steel and cast iron. In metallurgy carbon raiser (milled graphite) is widely used for slag foaming, during coal graphite production, as a filler for graphite-reinforced plastic.
